This is the best time in the world to be looking for a job! Opportunities are vast, more people are focusing upon creating exactly what they genuinely want in their lives, and that means it’s easier for everyone to get into the dream position because we do not have to compete with people who don’t even want to be in our job market. Go 2016.
No, I haven’t been drinking. Well, maybe a little. But that’s not the point. I actually wrote that first line as just a joke, but as I was writing it I realized that it really is true. I’m noticing that everyone is starting to shift more toward following their passions, despite fear. It’s a wonderful thing because, that’s exactly what were meant to do in this life. To follow, our dreams and create them one by one. For the first time, I know more people who are stepping out and giving it a try than ever. Maybe we’ve all gotten just a little bit more brave. Here are a few tips on how to turn that bravery into the job you love:
TIP #1: BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING, DECIDE FOR YOURSELF THAT YOU’RE WORTH EVERY PENNY
There was a scientific study that wanted to determine the impact on a person’s thinking in terms of applying for and receiving a job during the not-so-optimal economic times. The study found that every person who was focused on getting the job, did, in fact, receive a job, however, each one got a job parallel to that which they expected to receive. In other words, the person who’s been working as a maid got another job as a maid. The person working as a secretary got another job making around that same amount of money. The person who had previously been working as an Executive making six-figures, got that job as well. The study was meant to show that, despite experience levels (there is was not that much of a difference in their capabilities) the type of results a person is going to receive in life is directly related to whatever they expect to receive.
In that regard, it is important to let go of feelings of self-doubt and increase or enhance your feelings of self-worth. We’ve gotten terribly beaten down or confused over the last 20 years, mostly by her parents (they didn’t know any better and they did their best, so let it go). But now it’s your turn to take the lead in your life and be responsible for your own happiness. That may sound like a big job, but really all it takes is a willingness to be a little selfish. The word ‘selfish’ has some negative connotations attached to it that I think we would all do well to dis-member. Just keep in mind that the better your life is, the better you will be equipped to help other people and that means putting yourself first in ways you may have never considered before.
TIP #2: NOW THAT YOU KNOW YOU DESERVE IT, ENVISION YOURSELF HAVING IT
Visualization is powerful because it feels good. It also gives your mind and spirit some time to focus on having whatever it is you are desiring. Visualization takes the mind off of the thought, “I have to find a job,” and puts it instead on a higher thought, “it feels really good to have accomplished this task.” It’s a slight difference, but it is the difference between a negative focus and a positive focus; worry and faith/expectation, and having or not having.
TIP #3: FOR GOODNESS SAKES, BE DIFFERENT! AKA “BE YOU”
This really goes without saying, however, we’ve been so trained in how to present ourselves for work opportunities that we can get on autopilot about it whether we want to or not. This means saying things like, “I desire to hone my skills in such and such.” First of all, no one in their right mind is going to pay you to learn how to do a job that you’re saying you already know how to do. You may be compensated for enhancing your skills, but the job you are currently applying for should be something that you currently qualify for and have a passion for doing. That said, you’d do best to focus solely on showing the potential employer that you have been successful in doing the job at hand in previous circumstances.
TIP #4: LOOK THE PART
Usually you have one shot at impressing or grabbing the attention of the Hiring Manager. Putting your best foot forward is vital in doing this and I would definitely suggest stepping away from the typical resume format and doing something more advanced and expressive, but still professional in nature (i.e. DO NOT USE THE FREE TEMPLATES THAT HAVE BEEN IN MICROSOFT WORD SINCE 1996). Resume-reviewers move very quickly in evaluating initial candidates, so you have to do something to differentiate yourself from everyone else.
To help you accomplish this task, I am here to team up with you to create a wonderfully impressive resume. I’ve developed many custom resumes for friends and helped a few people get the job they were going for, so I decided to create a free resume template for others who might need assistance as well. The template is created in Photoshop. If you do not have Photoshop, you can go to Adobe.com and receive a 30-day trial version of the software so that you can edit the text inside of the file. If you need any help writing your content or determining how to show your true value, click here to contact me.
Good luck, I believe in you, go for it with full abandon!
Love,
Bridgette
